| 29557 | Feet 1870 Dan Herald Canoe, Ontario Canada | $30,000 | |
|
| Only 8 canoe's of this type in existence. Dan Harold built canoes from about 1869-1889. The reason his boats were so unique is that the outside bottom of the boat only consists of 6 cedar boards. On the inside he laid a lead soaked cloth on the wood and put down cedar strips side by side (similar to hardwood floors). There is another boat like this one is the Canada science and technology museum, this is a very rare canoe. |

In 1912, Karl caught the first salmon sent to President William H. Taft in this boat. He built about a hundred of them but as far as anyone knows, this is the only surviving one. Canvas covered and painted, it was designed and built for fishing and has oars but can also be paddled like a canoe. It last saw service around 1940 on Moosehead lake by Karl's grandson. This boat, with it's great history, is a one-of-a-kind piece of Maine and American history. |
